We are looking for a Head of Boarding for an International School based in Shanghai. This position is available with an immediate start.

About the role
Lead an English-style boarding house, requiring proven dormitory management experience and strong team leadership. You’ll oversee a team of 6 boarding counselors and 5 caregivers to ensure student welfare, routines, and a safe, supportive residential environment.
- Lead Boarding strategically in line with school policies; act in loco parentis with safeguarding and H&S paramount. - Recognize and respond sensitively to cultural differences; maintain an active presence in dorms. - Lead and manage the Boarding team; ensure consistency across dorms, regulations, and welfare; maintain QA/development plans. - Direct creation of a varied, enriching boarding program that builds academic, social, and interpersonal skills. - Build strong relationships across boarding/teaching staff, students, and parents; set clear dorm routines with Principals. - Communicate promptly and professionally with families; be available for meetings as needed. - Keep accurate records confidential; set duty rosters for full coverage; complete annual staff performance reviews. - Enforce the Code of Conduct; manage behavior fairly and consistently; ensure academic and pastoral supervision; report major concerns to SLT. - Maintain safe, clean, well-maintained dorms; prepare facilities each term; coordinate repairs and maintenance. - Run and record evacuation drills; ensure security systems and nightly dorm lock-up procedures are followed. - Oversee daily routines to meet students’ physical and emotional needs; approve medication; keep parents informed on health. - Be available to students for emotional support; provide life/pastoral programs and social-skills opportunities; join guidance meetings.
About you
- Bachelor degree or above. - Proven Boarding Leadership Experience, ideally in a British-style boarding setting - Strong interpersonal skills; responsive to students, parents, and staff - Solid knowledge of safeguarding and child protection - Proven leadership and people management; builds positive team relationships
Salary and benefits
